Our Mission

At Do the Math, our mission is to ignite curiosity and build lasting confidence in every student’s ability to succeed in mathematics. We believe that strong math skills are within reach for all learners. Through personalized instruction, we strengthen knowledge, develop effective strategies, and deepen understanding — empowering students to approach math with clarity and confidence.

Our Approach

At Do the Math, we take a holistic approach to teaching mathematics. We see each student as a whole person first, meeting them where they are academically and emotionally. Grounded in a growth mindset, we believe every student is capable of learning and making meaningful progress. By taking an emotionally informed approach, we recognize the many factors that can impact a student’s relationship with math — and we provide supportive, personalized guidance every step of the way.

Students We Support

More Than Just Math

Confidence

Feeling confident helps students be successful in all their endeavors. Celebrating successes and feeling good about accomplishments helps students be more willing to apply themselves in their study of mathematics.

Resiliency

Overcoming life's challenges is something that is valuable for everyone to practice. Persevering through math’s difficulties gives students the opportunity to practice resiliency that they can apply to the rest of their lives.

Metacognition

Often there are many paths toward success. Understanding the way one thinks is valuable in and out the math classroom. Students knowing what strategies work best for them helps them problem solve beyond math in school.

Success Stories:

“Richelle has been tutoring our daughter for 6 years. Because of Do the Math, our daughter sees math as fun and collaborative. They used to meet in person, but now they meet on Zoom or FaceTime. In each session, my daughter is a hundred percent relaxed, and her perspective and questions are met with respect and patience. Richelle is one of the best child educators I’ve met in my 13 years of parenting. Because of Do the Math, my daughter actually looks forward to math homework because she knows her questions will always be answered.” - Julia P.
